Testimonies and Updates

The last month came with huge testimonies where people got touched by God, some of them got to know God and some others renewed their faith in Jesus. In the next paragraph it will be shared their real stories but for safety reasons it won’t be used their real names.

German boy

This young man came to a English conversation class, with the intention to stay in London for a week, he used his first day to check his English level, for his surprise it was really good, intrigued by how well the professors were having fun with each other he decided to stick around after class and ended up accepting an invitation to go to our house to chat some more.

We got to know why he was in London and how long, because it was such a short period, me and my friend, decided to be more intentional with him and invite him for every plan we had in mind, surprisingly the German accepted all invitation!

With our friendship established we decided to invite him to our church meeting on a Sunday, which he rapidly said yes to. During the service we met in a place that could not fill more than 30 people (we had 30 people) and the worship was made by one guitar and everyone’s voice, right after that we had a community time to share struggles and prayer requests and went to testimonies and the word.

After service, in which for us was a normal meeting, for him was something completely new! He shared with tears in his eyes how intimate was te worship for him, to see the simplicity of one guitar and everybody’s passion while singing made him feel embraced by it. Also, the testimonies and community time made him see that church is more than go to a building, sit and listen for 2 hours, then go home, he ended up wanting more, but we had 2 days left, so we schedule a worship time, just 6 people and then we departed in different ways. On his last moment with us he shared that those meetings made it worth to go to London

Italian girl

Very similar to the young German, she came to know us trough an English conversation class, but with her we had 1 month to share time with. She was taking a vacation time right after finishing college, her plans were go to all events she could go, ended up meeting a lot of people, and in her words, from every group of people she met we were the most different one but she could not tell why.

She came to our games night, Friday events and the dinner night, and it was on a Wednesday at the dinner event that she was able to sit and talk for more than 1 hour and in a very informal space, because the dinner always takes place in one of the leaders house. Right there she said that we had something special and I had the chance to say that it was because we loved each other, which brought more questions than answers to her.

Later on the same week she came to the Friday event and we discussed the idea of her coming to a church meeting, with the promise that it would not be too different from the events she was going too. With her catholic background we went to a service in an old church building (very beautiful) but with a completely different way to worship.

By God’s grace, the worship was full of old hymns which she was a little familiar with, what she wasn’t too familiar was that we were almost screaming while singing. And just like the German she finished the service knowing there as something more about God that she has not learned yet. We went out to eat after church, we opted out for pizza, just to see if she was really Italian, and she had 1000 questions about faith that led her into wanting to know more about God! It was like giving water to the thirsty but that water only made her thirstier! She left London with a promise to go back as soon as her job allows.

In the meantime

As it is right now, I went back to Brazil to get my religious volunteer Visa to go back to London and I am spending some time visiting a new church and preparing myself to say one long goodbye to my family! As a student I knew that I will be back once a year but my life right now does not allow me to.

Needless to say that but I have to, this church on Rio called Comunidade do Rei, in one week changed my life forever, the level of community that I experienced there was the closest to the one I read in the book of Acts.

Regarding food, I am enjoying this time to eat as much Brazilian food as my body allows it, best culinary in the world! (Not bias)

I will be back in London in the next month! Thank you for being with me!
